78s Crafting Emotions - Anne-Sophie Mongeau, Sound Designer images and subtitles

Sound, before being something you hear, is really just a physical phenomenon. What we hear is really just the tip of the iceberg.I’m trying to go beneath the surface and try to access that whole pool of sounds thatwe’re not sensitive to.In order to reveal those hidden sounds, you need to use some unconventional equipment and techniques. For example, I try to record not the vibrations in the air, but through surfaces and material. What I hear is always surprising. As a Sound Designer for games, I think it’s really important to not only rely on sound effects libraries. After all, it’s all fictional – digitally made. The only way to really make these places believableis by allowing the player to connect emotionally with the environment.I’m trying to do that by using my recordings,or recordings that are made from me connecting with my surroundings. My name is Anne-Sophie Mongeau, I am a Sound Designer at Eidos-Montréal.
