541s Pop-culture artist & illustrator Jor Ros takes the new Wacom Intuos out for a spin images and subtitles

My name is Jor Ros. I'm an illustrator and artist based in Barcelona.I am a specialist for digital illustration.I've been a longtime user of Wacom products.Today I review the new Wacom Intuos.I've been using Wacom tablets since 2005.The packaging is compact.Inside of it you find the tablet, a cable, a quick start guide and the pen. This is the Medium size tablet. It's 20 cm x 26.5 cm. I think that's 7.8 x 10.4 inches.Setting up the tablet is fairly simple. You go to a link, you download the driver and then you're good to go.Once the driver is installed, you can start. What I did was fooling around with the options, because I needed to get familiar with the tablet. You can use the tablet just as it is with the default settings, but I like to try out the options. The tablet has four customisable hotkeys, which you can set individually for each software program, or you set general options. You can check the battery level. You can set the options for the pen.You can set the mapping of the screen on your tablet, which helps you control the movement with your pen.It connects via Bluetooth and it's very simple - you just press the button and wait for it to connect. The blinking light stops and then you can start drawing. There is also the Desktop Center. You can register your product if you choose to do so, to keep your product up to date. You can also check here the options from the driver. You can reach that menu in two different ways, this is the other one. Here you can also redeem the three creative software programs that come with the tablet.Download options are Painter Essentials 6, Clip Studio Paint Pro, and Corel Aftershot 3.I chose Clip Studio Paint Pro.It is a software that I've never used before, so I wanted to try it out.It was very interesting to see how it behaved.I started trying it out, to see how the line behaved with pressure sensitivity. It was difficult for me at first to get used to a pen tablet again, after having used a Wacom interactive pen display.I had to draw the line multiple times, just to get used to how the movement was being recorded by the tablet.A few minutes later, I started getting better at it and having more controlled movements. It is something very familiar to anyone that has used a tablet before.Another thing is the weight of the pen. The pen is very light.I needed to get used to it, but it worked really well.It was just a matter of working with it and becoming used to it.The top of the pen has three additional nibs stored inside it.You can change the nib whenever you like. The top also acts as the extracting tool.I like how clean my desk looks. It's a very clean product. There are no cables. It's ready to use, without the cable clutter. It's easy to take it along with you, because it's so compact and so light, that you can take it anywhere you go.Because of my work, I'm always moving around the city.So I decided to put the tablet to the test and take it with me throughout the day.Again, getting started was extremely easy - I just took my laptop out, took the tablet out, pressed the 'on' button and then I was ready to go.Just to give you a reference for prices, for the Small size, it costs 99 € resp. 99 $ (U.S.).The Medium size which is this one, it's 199 € and 199 $ as well. The available colours are black and pistachio-green.I was surprised with how well it performed, how easy it was to use, despite me not being used to a pen tablet anymore. The integrated Bluetooth connectivity was a big plus for me.The tablet's battery life seems very durable. One of the questions I get asked the most is about the software and hardware that I use. There's always more options for tablets but I can definitely see this an entry level tablet, for people who want to get into digital illustration or maybe photo editing.Maybe even for someone who wants to upgrade their previous pen tablet. My work is mostly about the details and it really delivered in an exact and precise performance. The Bluetooth functions sometimes took a little bit longer to connect, but other than that there was no hiccup during the set-up process.Something that is plug & play, and enables you to work that much faster, is just fantastic. In my opinion, it's a very solid product. It's compact, it's clean, and it's easy to carry.Combined with the digital software downloads that you can get,it's something that can upgrade and broaden your experience, e.g. in digital illustration.Whether it was moving across the city or giving lectures or setting up workshops,It's something that can go with you wherever you go, and enables you to work in a very quick and immediate fashion.I think it is a very solid option for someone who is constantly on the go.
